New Idea

I found various information about making vintage doilies into bowls and other  holders for say pens, flowers, etc. I love elegant vintage (1880s -1935) so of course I had to try it.   This one can hold coins, keys or a battery operated votive candle.  Isn't the one picture cool with the candle in the dark?
Note:  NOT water friendly!!!!.

  1. This is wonderful! What did you use to stiffen the doily?

  2. Thanks!! I used Aileen's fabric stiffener, and this morning I saw on the Plaid site there is a similar product to use and I also understand plaster of paris works too. After I read your post this morning I found the product I did not think existed (the Mod Podge Dimensional Magic and ordered some to use. :)

  3. These are so beautiful! Your creations look like delicate china, I would have never guessed they are fabric.

I wonder if this method would work for the huge collection of colorful vintage handkerchiefs I inherited from my grandmother? Would be so nice to have them on display rather than tucked in a box in the closet.

Thank you so much for the amazing idea, Valerie, and for featuring Style Maniac on your blog list. I'm honored!

  5. NOTE--These bowls are very fragile after they are done--for some reason this bent and when I tried to fix it it ripped big time :) Live and learn!!!
